Iran Declares Jihad on HD DVD In a move initially thought to distract the UN from its nuclear inspections, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared war against HD DVD.  "We believe that Blu-Ray technology is a blessing given by God", said Ahmadinejad.  He continued, "Anybody who recognizes HD DVD will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury.  Oh yeah, and the Zionists too."  Middle East intelligence has discovered that Ahmadinejad spent much of the country's gross domestic product obtaining expensive Sony Blu-Ray players which had to be smuggled in by North Korean sympathizers due to UN sanctions in recent weeks.  The pricey acquisition of the players along with several copies of the movie Terminator may have set Iran's nuclear ambitions back by up to two years some analysts predict.

Osama Camps Outside Retail Store for PS3At an undisclosed Best Buy in the hills between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Osama Bin Ladin setup camp to get his hands on Sony's newly released gaming console, the PlayStation 3 (PS3).  Osama was thrilled when his number was called, nearly tripping over a local cleric in a sprint to the pile of PS3 boxes heavily policed by pimply-faced boys brandishing AK47s.  Next Osama made way to the glass cases where PS3 game titles were for sale.  He was disappointed to learn that the game title he'd been waiting for, American Jihad, was merely a cave rumor.  In order to stop Osama's hissy-fit, the store manager came by and told him he thought the game title was going to be released for Ramadan in 2007.

X10 to Manufacture Windows Media Center Remotes

X10 Media Center Remote Controls The company that made voyeurism cool with their popup ads for mini video cameras is now getting back into the remote control business for PVRs. Once upon a time X10 was the core technology behind ATI's successful line of Remote Wonder controllers. After failing to pay their tremendous advertising bills, X10 filed for bankruptcy a few years ago and I dismissed them as gone.

Today on the X10 Europe website you can find details of two new remote controls that are designed for Windows Media Center. Both remotes are RF based rather than infrared. While this does allow control of your MCE box through walls and likely at a greater distance than infrared, they seem to have forgotten that we need to be able to turn on the TV and adjust the volume at a minimum.

HP Leaks Rumors of Hot New Notebook

HP's Floyd Landis Extreme Overclocked EditionWith diminishing popularity of the 'Lance Armstrong LiveStrong' series of computers Hewlett-Packard is apparently looking to a more recent sports icon to help boost sales in its notebook division.  Returning their attention to the world of cycling, HP is planning the 'Floyd Landis Extreme Overclocked Edition'.  Powered by an Intel Core 2 Extreme boosted from 2.93GHz to 5GHz, this notebook is guaranteed to smoke the competition.  And don't worry about power during long flights because HP is rumored to be squeezing two Sony battery packs into the notebook for extra punch.

Since Landis' abrupt dismissal from Team Phonak, many believed Landis to be washed out.  But according to HP board member, George Keyworth, Landis will be found innocent of all doping allegations.  "I got the news straight from Patricia Dunn's mouth.", said Keyworth.  He continued, "You didn't hear it from me, but we have an aggressive ad campaign in the works with other sports legends such as Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, and Sammy Sosa also promoting the notebook.  Not to give away too many secrets, but we're planning on pricing it around $1999 which should make it hard for Toshiba and Dell to compete since we're going to be assembling these computers in North Korea where labor is extremely cheap.  Oh and one other thing.  We don't want news of this getting out to France since--well, they pretty much hate Landis.  So don't tell them, okay?"

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950 Hi-Def TunerIt took long enough, but Hauppauge has come out with a nifty little USB tuner that does both NTSC and ATSC.  I like the fact that the tuner is external but small enough to not be an eyesore like most external tuners.  With decreasing PCI slots available non-invasive USB tuners are a good idea.
